digital camera zoom question?

is it possible to take a good picture of the moon and all its detail with a stand Digital Camera not a slr

Possible, that a point and shoot Digital Camera could get a good picture of the moon. It would help if the camera had a high telephoto range with its zoom lens, a meter that would not be tricked by the bright moon and very dark sky, then had a photographer who knows know to handle a camera some.

Sure, with a few caveats. If you want to see what you can do, google "digiscoping" and then click on the "photos" link.

Most of the details will be preserved. The problem with the smaller simpler lenses of compact cameras is that they tend to be prone to chromatic abberations, so particularly with bright objects you'll notice that one side has a red border and the other side a purple border.

But since it's the moon you can just correct to grayscale and all will be fine.
