What's better, Nikon or Canon?

Reasons, and their top cameras, (ex. Nikon D500, Canon Rebel etc.)
*Nikon D5000
my bad.

Best Answer

Both are best ... it depends upon what kind of subjects you shoot and with system has the lenses and camera bodies needed to shoot them.

Nikon has been supplying professional cameras since 1959 and Canon since 1988.

Nikon does not have a D500. Its top selling pro camera is the D3 and best studio camera is the D3x
Canon makes a 500D, but it is an entry level camera. Canon's top camera is the 1Ds, Mark III

All you are going to get is a bunch of loyalist opinions about which camera is best, not much in the way of valuable information

Here is how you can determine which one is best for you.

First look on the Nikon and Canon websites and see which camera bodies have the features you need to shoot your assignments.

If these sites are too technical for you, go into a camera store and hold a Nikon D5000 and Canon 500D in your hands and see which feels best to you.

Perhaps more important though, see which cameras menu is the easiest for you to use to make changes in ISO, camera resolution, white balance, mode switching and make EV changes (a camera with +5/-5 EV could be important to you).

Finally, take an SD card with you and test each camera at their highest and lowest ISO as well as when using the white balance that matches the light in the store as well as with it in the "auto white balance" mode.

Once you get home and are able to see the results on your large computer monitor, you will know which camera is better for your needs and expectations, not ours.

Take your time before you decide. Once you choose one, you will be married to that system for decades and the cost of changing to the other system will cost you nearly as much as a divorce.
Be sure to take your time. If unsure, go back and do more tests until you are convinced which system is best for you

God give me strength...

Nikon and Canon are as good as each other. Nikon is a camera specialist, while Canon is an electronic giant.

Nikon + Canon = 75% market share of high end cameras. Roughly equal between the two.

They are made differently and handled differently and their result is slightly different as well. But that doesn't mean one is better than the other, because one person would say Nikon is better while the other one says Canon.

That's why the two company can be the top two, and not one just stamp out the other and monopolize the market.
